Meet Lisa, behind the lens
I’ve been photographing people for over 20 years. It began with a photography degree at RMIT in Melbourne and grew into a life spent behind the camera, photographing people in all kinds of light and all kinds of moments.
Along the way, my work widened. I became a professional retoucher, learning to care for every detail of an image. I developed a fine art practice, work that has been exhibited and collected privately. And I trained as a kinesiologist and yin yoga teacher, learning how the body holds tension and how gently it can let go.
For a long time I thought of these as separate paths. Now I see they all come from the same thread: a devotion to presence. To that moment when someone softens and lands, comes back to themselves, and expands into their truth. That’s the moment I photograph.
That’s what I bring to every portrait. Now based in Bulimba, Brisbane, I photograph people in my open air studio overlooking the park, and in the spaces where they live and work. My sittings are slow and gentle, because I’ve learned that when people feel at ease, something real appears. That’s the moment I’m waiting for.
